Writer’s Mobile Shelter
This economical shelter provides temporary accommodation in the walled gardens of Borris House, County Carlow for an ‘as yet undisclosed’ resident writer. The Festival of Writing & Ideas has become known for its casual, friendly atmosphere, and for its extraordinary line up of speakers. It takes place within the magical surroundings of Borris House, the seat of the High Kings of Leinster, situated at the foot of the Blackstairs Mountains with the River Barrow meandering by.
Our flexible structure is one of eight installations, intended to provide shelter for the invited writers within the context of the walled garden. Our proposal uses natural materials – bamboo joined with plywood, rope, and sheathed in canvas. The forces of sun, wind and rain will determine the form; all to be resolved and determined as part of the construction process.
