Malahide Market shortlisted in Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland Awards
The new external covered market and internal food retail space we designed in collaboration with Donnybrook Fair last year has been shortlisted in the 2017 RIAI Awards. The project was shortlisted for best commercial/ retail project of the year. As a result, the project is now included in the Public Choice Award. If you visited the project to buy some food and enjoy an ice cream under the timber canopy – or you simply like how the project has brought new life to an important site in the town centre of Malahide – then you can vote online here:

Elizabeth O’Farrell House – the doves are released
The final elements of the facade repairs and refurbishment to our project on North Cumberland Street in Dublin City centre were installed this week. A flock of doves were formed using silhouettes cut from bronze toned metal plates, with folds in the surfaces designed to catch the light and provide a kinetic life to the birds and one passes by. The long low sun this morning brought this to life…
Christmas Toast, 2016
After a particularly hectic period leading up to the Christmas break, the PAC Studio team went to visit the Teeling Whiskey Distillery in the Liberties, just around the corner from our Studio. A few drops of golden sunshine later and we were resolutely prepared for a Christmas party. Best wishes for the year ahead to all our clients, consultants, contractors and colleagues – and a happy Christmas!
Elizabeth O’Farrell House opened by Sabina Higgins
Minister Varadkar welcomed Mrs Sabina Higgins, wife of the Irish President, to officially open Elizabeth O’Farrell House on North Cumberland Street this week – a poignant moment in the centenary year of 1916.
PAC Studio have designed and coordinated a series of transformations to the building over the past few years to accommodate various Social Welfare and Medical Services to the local community; the most recent being the analysis, renovation and repairs for the longer term durability of the original 1940’s concrete frame.

Rural Landscape
A trip to the north yesterday to our project for a family house within a farming landscape, set within fields of beans under the late summer sun. The design developed from the traditional farmhouse with projecting walls sheltering the external spaces, and the utilitarian barn structures for storage and shelter. Efficient planning, orientation and design of the envelope and structure all contribute to the passive solar design concept, with minimal reliance on external energy resources.

PAC Studio – relocation to Fumbally Court
We are extremely excited to be settling into our new studio environment from today, Monday 25th July – a few finishing touches to go, but we look forward to seeing clients, colleagues and friends in our new space in the coming weeks…it is not geographically far from the old office, but world’s apart in terms of our design environment.

Daylighting in the workplace
PAC have been developing means to maximise the benefits of a naturally lit office, balancing the control of glare with access to good daylight and connection to the external conditions – through a range of models and scales.
Medical Review and Assessment Service, North Dublin
PAC has successfully delivered the next stage of the refurbishment of the Medical Review and Assessment Services on Northumberland Street – the internal refurbishment of the office spaces included the development of a low energy inner glazing system, in hardwood sash windows, making a double facade zone for thermal comfort and energy saving – and a zone for staff to grow planting in this inner city location. As found materials – terrazzo floors, parquet – from the original 1940’s design were refurbished and restored within the scope of the project, complimentary to the new timber interior spaces.

Congratulations to Jessica Lange
Congratulations to Jessica from all at PAC – Jess graduated last Friday with a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Building Repair And Conservation. Her thesis focused on the restoration techniques for mid-20th century concrete cladding and structure on a Social Welfare Office we have been refurbishing for the Office of Public Works in Dublin. PAC Studio designed this insertion of a precast concrete public stair and lifts for the building this year, to provide a durable, robust but light-filled entrance for all visitors to this public facility.
