Elizabeth O’Farrell House, Dublin 1

The retrofit and refurbishment of this Government Department office, built just after the second world war, was undertaken incrementally; firstly, a new precast lift and stair well were inserted to allow full accessibility to the public. Office spaces were then retrofitted including internal timber sliding sash windows, to improve thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Finally, the facades were cleaned and repaired as necessary – particularly the external exposed concrete frame, where reinforcement corrosion was treated.
